Do all superheroes wear capes?
As part of our History topic this term and our learning question “Why do we have a fire service?”, we were very lucky to receive a visit from our local fire service.
The children had an amazing hands-on experience: they climbed aboard the fire engine, tried on real fire uniforms, and learned all about the different pieces of equipment firefighters use to keep us safe. One of the highlights was getting to have a go with the hose, which caused lots of excitement and smiles all round.
The visit helped the children understand that real-life superheroes don’t always wear capes - sometimes they wear helmets and fireproof jackets. We would like to say a huge thank you to our local fire service for taking the time to visit us and for teaching us so much about their important role in our community.
KS1 Polymer Clay Art Workshop with Gill Cosford
We were delighted to welcome polymer clay artist Gill Cosford into school for a creative day working with all KS1 classes. The children took part in a hands-on polymer clay workshop, inspired by the artist Wassily Kandinsky and his famous Circles artwork.
Throughout the day, the children developed a wide range of artistic and practical skills. They learned how to condition and soften clay by rolling and folding, shape it into balls, flatten it using their fingers and hands and explore size by comparing and ordering circles. The children also experimented with adding textures and patterns, such as spots and stripes, using a variety of tools and materials.
In addition, the children learned how to use equipment safely and responsibly, developed their fine motor skills, and were encouraged to work creatively and independently. They also discovered what makes polymer clay special, learned new art vocabulary, and were introduced to the work of Kandinsky through images and discussion.
The workshop was a truly enjoyable and memorable experience, giving the children the opportunity to explore art in a new and exciting way while creating beautiful pieces that will be displayed as a collaborative artwork
Scootering Fun
This week, all of our KS1 children took part in an exciting scootering session and had a fantastic time developing their skills and confidence on their scooters.
Throughout the session, the children learnt how to scoot safely and practised controlling their speed, balance and movement. They also had the opportunity to learn some impressive tricks and develop their coordination skills.
The children showed great determination and enthusiasm as they challenged themselves to try new skills. It was wonderful to see everyone encouraging one another and celebrating each other’s achievements. Lots of smiles, laughter and perseverance were on display throughout the day.
The session was a brilliant way to promote physical activity, coordination and confidence, while also giving the children the chance to have lots of fun outdoors.
Well done to all of our KS1 children for their excellent effort and positive attitudes.
