At Fosse Way Academy, we recognise that Computing is an essential subject in preparing pupils for life in an increasingly digital world. We believe that children should become masters of technology, using it confidently, responsibly and creatively to enhance their learning and everyday lives. Our ambitious Computing curriculum develops independence, problem-solving skills and creativity, whilst ensuring pupils understand how to use technology safely, respectfully and purposefully. We aim to equip children with the knowledge and confidence to become responsible digital citizens who can make informed choices when using technology.

Throughout their time at Fosse Way Academy, pupils develop a secure understanding of computer science, information technology and digital literacy through a carefully sequenced curriculum. They build practical skills using a range of digital devices and software, including computers, tablets, programmable equipment and multimedia tools. Children learn to create, debug and refine programs, develop algorithms, communicate using digital technologies and present their learning creatively across the curriculum. As they progress through school, pupils become increasingly confident in selecting the most appropriate digital tools to support their learning and solve problems independently.

We strive to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment where children are encouraged to explore, investigate and take risks with technology. Online safety is embedded throughout our curriculum, ensuring pupils understand how to keep themselves and others safe while using digital technologies. We encourage children to think critically about the digital world, recognising both the opportunities and responsibilities that come with technology.

Our Computing curriculum is carefully designed to build knowledge and skills progressively from the Early Years through to Year 6, meeting and exceeding the expectations of the National Curriculum. By the time pupils leave Fosse Way Academy, they will be confident, resilient and creative users of technology who can apply their computing skills across the curriculum and beyond. They will understand the importance of using technology positively and responsibly and will be well prepared for the next stage of their education and life in an ever-evolving digital world.
