At Fosse Way Academy, we believe that history plays a vital role in helping pupils understand the world around them and how the past has shaped the present. Our carefully sequenced curriculum develops pupils’ knowledge and understanding of significant people, events and civilisations, while building a strong sense of chronology and encouraging a lifelong curiosity about the past.

Our curriculum progressively develops key historical skills, including chronological understanding, historical investigation, interpretation, the use of evidence and communicating historical ideas. Pupils are encouraged to ask perceptive questions, examine sources, consider different interpretations and form their own reasoned conclusions. Prior learning is regularly revisited and key historical vocabulary is explicitly taught and reinforced, enabling pupils to know more and remember more over time.

Through engaging and inspiring learning experiences, pupils develop an understanding of Britain’s past and the wider world, including how different societies and civilisations have changed and influenced one another. By the time they leave Fosse Way Academy, pupils will have developed a love of history and the knowledge, alongside critical thinking skills, to understand how the past continues to shape the world in which they live.
